The role:
This busy scrap metal yard in South Auckland is looking for an experienced Digger Operator to work the yard to prepare the nonferrous scrap metal for export. Reporting to the Yard Supervisor you will be be part of the team responsible for all operational aspects of the nonferrous team including the processing of metals to improve grades and ensuring their customers have an exceptional customer experience! Best of all you get to work with their awesome hard-working nonferrous team of 9 who enjoy a bit of a laugh while they work.
This is an opportunity to put in the hours for the financial rewards as their team operates on a 100 hour fortnight, 6 days on one week (53 hours) and 5 the next week (47 hours), this also includes working a ½ day every second Saturday.
Oh, and did I mention there is also an incentive program where you can earn additional $ every month on top of your excellent wages? Well, they have that too!
You will be required to:

Be responsible for daily operation of Diggers and yard equipment and work effectively with your team

Plan each days processing work autonomously when required

Run quality checks to meet export standards and ensure workflow is continuous

Ensure the Endless HSE strategy is implemented in your department.

Working with the HSE Advisor you may be required to assist with writing, training and implementing SOP's, and risk assessments for all nonferrous plant, equipment and tasks.

Be responsible for the safe and efficient day to day operation of the Digger and surrounds

Ensure all processing is completed on time to meet the packing plan.

You and your team will be responsible for customer grading, product upgrading and sorting nonferrous metals for export.

Work with HR to manage any employee concerns.

Work with Engineering to ensure repairs and maintenance of all nonferrous plant and equipment are completed, to minimise downtime.

Ensure pre-start checks are completed and any issues raised are seen through to completion.
You will need:

A minimum of 2-4 years working with Diggers (preferably experienced with Grab Claw operation) and a WTR (Wheels, Tracks and Rollers licence endorsement)

Health, safety and the environment are your priority when planning your daily tasks and never far from top of your mind

Process is where it is at! You have experience working with processing, machinery and on a manual process line that may include bailers, shears and hand sorting.

This is a physical, outdoor in the elements, hands-on, get amongst it kind of gig, so being fit, healthy, reliable, and happy to put in a good day’s work for excellent rewards is essential.

Clear and confident in your communication, you are capable of precise communication in an industrial setting

It would be ideal if you hold a current fork hoist certificate or F endorsement however this is not essential as we are happy to provide training to the right person.

Computer literate you can send emails, approve timesheets (in a digital platform – they will teach you this bit), use a point of sale (POS) system, and print pre-start check forms if needed.

You have exceptional attention to detail, are meticulous in your approach to all tasks and always meet your deadlines.

Some understanding of metal grading would be an advantage however they will be happy to teach you everything you need to know.
